Below are five things that, according to research, can really help to boost our mental wellbeing:
- Connect – connect with the people around you: your family, friends, colleagues and neighbours. You could talk to someone instead of sending an email, speak to someone new, or put five minutes aside to find out how someone really is.
- Take Notice – be more aware of the present moment, including your thoughts and feelings, your body and the world around you. You could have a ‘clear the clutter day’, visit a new place for lunch, or take a different route on your journey to or from work.
- Keep learning – learning new skills can give you a sense of achievement and a new confidence. Research something you’ve always wondered about, read a new book, or participate in a new hobby or activity
- Be active – you don’t have to go to the gym. You could simply take the stairs not the lift, go for a walk at lunchtime, walk to someone’s desk instead of emailing.
- Give – even the smallest act can count, whether it’s a smile, a thank you or a kind word. Attend World Mental Health Day at Heart of the Campus on 10th October and support our students who are holding a bake sale for charity
