The social impact of sport

Research from Hallam’s Sport Industry Research Centre has been featured in an article on the social impact of sports.

The research, which used a Social Return on Investment (SROI) approach, estimated the social benefits from sport compared to the total estimated costs of providing sport. It examined the value of sport’s impact on improving six health outcomes;

  • reducing crime
  • improving educational attainment
  • enhancing human capital
  • volunteering
  • improving subjective wellbeing

It also found that for every £1 spent on participating in sport in England, £1.91 worth of benefit is generated in society. The research has been referenced in sportsmanagement.co.uk, you can read more about the research on shu.ac.uk.
