New online request to extend a submission deadline

On Monday 11 September, the University launched a new online Request to Extend a Submission Deadline (RESD) process for students.

From this date, students will submit extension requests electronically via My Student Record (MSR), either within or outside of the university, and will receive a decision from their Faculty Student Services team directly to their online SHU account.

The key benefits of introducing the Request to Extend a Submission Deadline online process are:

Students

  • Consistent experience which mirrors the Request to Repeat an Assessment Attempt (RRAA) process
  • Full online process – no need for paper forms and receipt issued when on submission
  • Only applicable assessment tasks will be available to choose from – no need to search through full profile of modules
  • Students will benefit from being able to track the progress of their request, as well as see a history of all of their requests wherever they may be

Staff

  • Removes the need for tracking on spreadsheets – information is available via reports and the online portal
  • Allows easier and open access to requests when colleagues are on leave or absent – everything is accessed via a central workflow
  • Standardised receipt and outcome emails sent directly to student when decision made
  • Notification email informing of students with extensions automatically sent to module leader following the original deadline date

For staff, the new process will continue to bring together key information into one place, allowing it to be shared across all services who support the student.  By storing this information in SITS, the university can also strengthen the services offered to our all students.
