Success for Professional Services Values Launch event

The Faculty of Health and Wellbeing’s launch event for the new Professional Services Values, was a great success.

Over 80 people from across professional services, including technical and research centre staff attended the event on July 12, at Heart of the Campus.

Philip Wain introduced the new Values, along with the background about the work to date; how we developed them together and how they represent the faculty’s vision and support the university’s mission.

Work began on the Values in October 2016 when the Faculty Professional Services management group met to explore our current culture and consider how it might be developed and shaped going forward. Consultation meetings started in April 2017, where groups composed of members from each of the professional services teams responded to feedback from across the faculty to shape our values;

The event was run by the Culture project group leads Mandy Blake and Alison Liver, and featured some group activities around the new values, providing staff with the opportunity discuss the ‘characteristics’ of the values while networking across professional services.

“To help staff remember the Values and make them more meaningful we decided to give them characters and created a Family of Values. Proactive Pete, Adaptable Annie, Ivor Integrity, Count Dev and Valerie O. Staff were put into teams and each given a character to look after. They had to complete a Persona sheet with a picture of their family member and what they were like then produce a short video showing what it was like to live like their family member. A day in the life of…..Proactive Pete.” Alison Liver, Student Experience Manager.

“We aim to put these values at the heart of what we do and the workshops were about real engagement with them, and each other. The videos produced by all the teams show that it was a great success, with fantastic input and energy from all attendees.”
Philip Wain, Head of Faculty Professional Services.

Managers will continue to take the Values work forward with teams to ensure it is used to underpin the everyday business of Faculty Professional Services in the future.
