Email to Office 365

On Wednesday 5th July, you will be able to start using the new version of Outlook with:

  • a much bigger mailbox (your mailbox size  will  increase from 550MB to 50GB)
  • better access from mobile devices.

Instructions for using the new version of Outlook can be found here.

What will the changes be?

  • If you are using Outlook from a PC on campus, you may notice an additional login box when you first start Outlook
  • If you are using Outlook Web App (OWA) you will be able to log in directly at the URL https://go.shu.ac.uk/office365

and using your office 365 login: <yourusername> @hallam.shu.ac.uk  and your normal SHU password

  • If you access Outlook from a mobile device, you may need to change your set up so please take a look at the instructions before the day of the move
  • Emails over 6 months old will be placed in your personal archive folder at the bottom of your folder list.

What is happening now?

Preparatory work on your archived e-mail will be taking place in readiness for the migration.  You may notice Enterprise Vault disappearing as archived e-mails are moved into Office 365.  You may also be asked to login a second time.  No e-mails will be lost but while this work is happening, you may not find old emails in the place you expect. You can access your archived e-mails here.  Apologies for any issues this causes. IT Help staff (x3333) will be able to assist you if you want guidance in finding your way around the archive.

During the Migration

The migration will take place the night before.  You may notice a short interruption after 9pm.

SHU MacBook/Imac users

To be able to continue to read email on your SHU issued MacBook/iMac after the upgrade, you will need to install a new email client.  To do so: please either follow the instructions found here, or call X3333 for help.

Further Assistance

We will have staff available to help you on the day of the move and there is more information about the move to Outlook Office 365 here.

If you have any questions about the migration or any comments on the information you’ve received so far, please email ithelp@shu.ac.uk
