If you’re sticking around Sheffield for the summer – or you just got here as an international student and you’re looking to explore some of the city and check out what’s on offer here, look no further! There’s so much going on in Sheffield over the summer weeks and months, it’s always a lively, fun, creative city but, over the summer, you get all of that, plus the sunshine.
1. Peddler
Yes, the Peddler market happens every month, all year around so, really it shouldn’t be on this list but, there’s something about Peddler in the summer that makes it that bit better. The sunshine means everybody turns up earlier in the day to make the most of the weather, and since the sun doesn’t set until late in the evening, everybody sticks around for as long as possible to enjoy all the cocktails and cold beer, eat as much of the amazing food as possible, listen to some live music and just relax with friends and family.
As with Doc/Fest, many people believe you need a full ticket or pass to enjoy the delights of the festival, and it’s true, you get access to everything with a full pass but, if you’re a little strapped for cash, you can still enjoy some of the highlights of Tramlines. For example, the Student Union building “The HUBs” is going to be a fringe venue for Tramlines this year, meaning cheap tickets for fantastic bands and artists, right here at your union
3. Theatres
Don’t forget that although some of the student bars and clubs might not be too lively now summer is here, other Sheffield venues are still around, with full programmes of events and screenings for you to check out. If you’re 18-24 you can see shows at Sheffield Theatres – including the Crucible for just £5 and there’s some fantastic shows on this summer such as The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time and Tribes
4. Cinemas
There are also a range of cinemas in Sheffield for you to head to when the typical British weather rears its ugly head, the Vue, Odeon and Cineworld are there for when you want to see the latest blockbuster, and for those who love independent films, there’s the Showroom cinema and the Curzon right in the City centre
If you don’t fancy Tramlines, there’s lots of other music events in Sheffield this summer, including Music in the Gardens, which is a music festival in the Botanical Gardens. It features some fantastic music acts, lots of food and drink and a huge firework display at the en
6. Pinknic
A fantastic celebratory LGBTQ+ event in Sheffield city centre for families. No matter your age, gender, sex etc. you can take part, volunteer at the event, perform at the event or even have a stall at the event to sell produce etc. Either way, it’s a wonderful opportunity to socialise with the Sheffield community and celebrate Pride
7. Sheffield by the Seaside

For August, a pop-up seaside comes to the Peace Gardens in Sheffield centre, complete with stalls selling food and drinks, picnic benches, live entertainment and music daily, there’s even rides for children and more. Obviously not everybody wants to go on a helter-skelter but it’s an opportunity to have some delicious ice cream and sit by the fountains enjoying some music and relaxing in the sunshine.
8. Sheffield Film and Comic Con

If, like me, you’re a bit nerdy and enjoy science-fiction television and books, comics, toys, fantasy etc. the Sheffield Film and Comic Con in August is something you should check out, there are celebrities and famous faces from throughout the years, lots of stalls to buy geeky things, cosplay competitions and more. It goes on for a whole weekend at Sheffield Arena and is a fantastic experience.
9. And that’s not all…
