Introduction to Mindfulness

Find out more about this powerful technique that reduces stress and anxiety, improves sleep, aids concentration and memory, and has an overall positive impact on wellbeing.

Introduction to Mindfulness

A seminar that introduces the concept of mindfulness and the implications for improved mental health and wellbeing, as well as teaching some key mindfulness practices.

9-13 February

A programme of events concerning language learning and intra-cultural communication, with performances, workshops and talks.

Monday 9 February, 5-6pm, The HUBS: Portuguese Workshop

The Brazilian Society give a short interactive introduction to Portuguese.

 

Tuesday 10 February, 3-4pm, The HUBS: Indigenous Language of Nigeria

The Nigerian society introduce the history and culture behind the three main indigenous languages of Nigeria, and teach some key phrases in each.

 

Friday 13 February, 6-10pm, The HUBS: ACS Take Me Out!

The Afro Caribbean Society’s annual Take Me Out event, based on the popular game show. Brush up on you intra-cultural communication skills with music and dancing.

ICE Club Xtra – The Pizza Game

Ever wanted to feel what it is like running your own Pizza shop? imagesCome and join us for this realistic simulation. You will work in teams making business decisions with the aim of making the most profit! This is a great way to enhance your employability and business skills. SHU GoGlobal blog competition

Share your experiences of going global to inspire others and you could win an iPad mini.

The SHU GoGlobal blog competition is to create an online blog about your experience of internationalising while being a student at Sheffield Hallam University. Internationalising is the process of gaining an understanding of other cultures and developing a global outlook.

The brief is to create an online blog which records the best stories from your time at Sheffield Hallam or your study/work experience abroad and the impact the experience has had on you and your future.

Join Global Friends!

This scheme puts you in touch with local people to help you experience a taste of British life. They may take you for a coffee, to their favourite place in Sheffield or even invite you to their home. This is a great way to establish a lasting friendship.

SHU Fest is coming!!!

2–8 March

A massive week-long festival packed with fun and exciting events showcasing the talent and diversity of our students and staff.

Join us for live performances, interactive workshops and social events across the University including film screenings, music, dancing, craft, cookery and more.

Last year’s line-up included classical Indian dancing, a Brazilian carnival and a live acoustic guitar performance. Watch videos from last year’s event.

Join Global Community – a new student society

We are really excited about a new student group that has formed recently and has been organising events for all students. Here’s what they have to say…

Global Community* aims to enhance the lives of Sheffield Hallam students of every nationality and ethnic background by embracing diversity andGlobal Community instigating multicultural interactions through the organisation of social events ranging from vibrant festivities to monthly networking events.

We host monthly networking events with culture-related themes to serve as a cultural immersion and global networking platform. Fun diversity-based icebreakers, interactive games and group activities will be the heart of the events.  We aim to offer surprises in every event. We also organise workshops on cultural awareness and other activities.

We have successfully held three popular social events for Culture Connect mentoring scheme including a Christmas event and New Year celebration.  And we also organised an information event for Go Global Week. Our society committee is a diverse, creative, dynamic group!

Adedamola is a Culture Connect mentee from Nigeria.  She is the Marketing Communications Officer.  She loves learning, reading and always looking for opportunities to impact lives!  She is friendly, fun-loving, easy-going and wants to meet you!

Waqas is a Culture Connect mentee from Pakistan.  He is the Event Officer. He loves music, games, exploring new places, making new friends and planning a lot of fun filled activities for SHU students.

Yuvini is a Culture Connect mentor from Sri Lanka.  She is the President. She is vibrant, positive and social. Her passion is meeting people from around the world and she cannot wait to meet you all.

Sailaja is a Culture Connect mentee from India. She is the Event Officer. She is a simple and soft spoken person.  She loves travelling, making friends and participating in events.

Dapo is a SHU student from Nigeria. He is the Equal Opportunities Officer. He works hard, lives life to the fullest, laughs as much as he can, and never forgets that everything he is and hopes to be he owe to God.

Amy is a Culture Connect mentor from Hong Kong, China. She is the Secretary. She is a quirky introvert. She always likes to know more about different cultures, lifestyles and religions, loves to create small surprises for others, and likes to challenge conventional stereotypes.

Yee Rou is a Culture Connect mentee from Malaysia. She is the Treasurer. She has always been passionate about events planning and making the ideas work. She also loves music and plays the guitar.’
