Despite the inevitable interruption to our intended programme of work as a result of COVID-19 and the campus closure, there is good news of some progress on our Campus plan.
Hallam Alliance Partnership – contracts signed
We are delighted to announce that we have a just signed the contracts for the Hallam Alliance Partnership – our ground-breaking new construction industry procurement and delivery model which aims to inspire change in the industry. The Alliance, the first of its kind in the UK for a university building programme, is made up of the University and BDP-Arup (design-led consultancy), BAM (construction) and CBRE (Facilities Management).
Atrium refurbishment
The first piece of work that the Hallam Alliance will undertake is the Atrium refurbishment. We are currently re-planning this project to enable us to begin work later this month to replace the leaking roof and make other improvements while University buildings are closed. Allowing construction workers access to the whole site before the campus re-opens means there will be less impact on staff and students when they do return.
Science Park
We have secured planning permission on the demolition of the Science park, which gives the green light to clear the site ahead of the new build blocks being developed in its place. There is still a lot of work to do in advance of any demolition starting, including continuing to relocate existing occupants, but this is an important milestone.
