To support the delivery of the Campus Masterplan, Furnival Works building is being refurbished to provide a modern, flexible office space for staff who have vacated the Science Park. The redeveloped building will have the capacity to accommodate 200 colleagues; and uses an agile design to allow for flexibility in future occupation.
So far, the building has undergone an internal strip-out of redundant fabric and infrastructure. Consultation and design development has progressed with affected University staff, and a Contractor has been appointed to undertake the works, with mobilisation due to commence in the very near future.
The project will include the installation of a new roof, entire new building services, and alterations to the internal layout. Once refurbished, the office space will have a stylish blend of contemporary, biophilic designs with flexible desk options, informal breakout spaces and meeting rooms. There will also be a small, communal courtyard at the rear of the building with relaxed seating areas, plants and greenery. The new space will be largely open plan; offering better natural lighting and adaptable workspaces for occupants.
The contribution that Furnival Works has made to Sheffield will be built upon as we enter this new chapter of the building’s history. We plan to include an exposed ceiling within the building, allowing the surroundings to lean towards an industrial look and feel. The rich history of the late 1800’s building coupled with the new, exciting designs will create a modern, multi-use office environment that will be a key attribute to our estate.
Following mobilisation of our appointed contractor, the physical construction work will commence in earnest. We are currently finalising the works programme with the contractor and will continue to liaise with colleagues regarding their relocation dates so that move planning can commence in good time.
