The first phase of the campus masterplan will see new developments on the Science Park area which will require the demolition of the current Science Park buildings and closure of the car park. In preparation, the Estates team has been assessing the ground conditions. There will be some site works over the coming months to survey the areas and drill holes to inform the foundation designs. To make room for the development, we will close the car park later this year; we will communicate this date in advance. Building occupants will move out and discussions are happening now with staff about how and where they will be relocated. Areas of Owen level 10 and Furnival Works (the former NXP building on Furnival Street) will be altered and refurbished to provide replacement accommodation; alternative work spaces will be provided for postgraduate research students who are currently based in the Science Park.
There is no proposal to replace the car parking spaces that will be lost. A parking review is underway to provide clearer arrangements for university parking and details of other nearby car parks.
