As part of our work on the Campus masterplan, Estates have determined that the best way of delivering the programme is to take a fresh look at how we appoint the necessary designers and contractors to support us, as traditional methods of delivery would not achieve the ambition we have set ourselves.

We have developed the “Hallam Alliance”, which will be a partnership between the University, a multi-discipline design team, a contractor and a facilities management provider to enable us to design and deliver great buildings that put the user experience and how the buildings are operated at the heart of the approach.

The Alliance is a long-term commitment across the first and second phases of the masterplan which will enable us to deliver lessons learned and continual improvement across the whole programme. Working closely with our department of Natural and Built Environment, we have also developed an innovative approach to supporting students with obligations on partners around teaching and learning, work placements and employment opportunities for students.

Hallam Alliance includes a commitment to innovation and will bring together private sector and university research capability to drive innovation and research in construction and building over the life of the partnership.

We are currently out to tender for partners. Once they have been appointed, more detailed design and planning for the new developments will begin quickly. We are taking a pathfinding approach with this which is receiving much interest nationally, as we set a new benchmark for innovative construction procurement and seek to address challenges in the construction industry.
