We have now taken handover of the office areas of Sheaf level 2 following some additional work to parts of the ceiling. The remainder of this level, including the SCALE UP room and IT suite, will be handed back to us towards the end of April and fit-out work is continuing in these areas to make them ready for specialist use.

Demolition of the stairs on level 2 EMB has been completed, and supporting steelwork is currently being installed. The stairs leading to Pond Street have also been removed and steelwork for the new lift shaft is being put in. This means contractors will be making alterations to the scaffolding and will be able to remove the temporary roof in this area, although a further cover will be erected over the lift shaft to protect this area and the adjoining room,  Sheaf 4027. A new roof and guttering will also be installed on Sheaf level 2 and this will take several months to complete.

Preparation works for the tower crane, which will be housed on the site of the old NMB, are ongoing with all four of the required concrete bases now poured. Contractors have confirmed that the crane will be operational by Monday 25 April, although exact dates for when we expect it to be erected have not been confirmed. Full details will be confirmed  as soon as possible.

Finally, last week  a digger on site brought up a previously unknown dead underground cable, which in turn caused damage to three rooms in Sheaf. Fortunately the damage was relatively minor and, thanks to the swift response of the estates team and colleagues in ACES, the damage was repaired in time for the return of students this week.
