Each year English Heritage run Heritage Open Days across the country and this year over 50 venues in Sheffield took part. Sheffield Hallam participated for the first time with an exclusive tour of Owen Rooftop this weekend just gone.
Sheffield Hallam University sits in the heart of Sheffield city centre so when Heritage Open Days offered the chance for us to play our part, we were keen to try something unique and show the general public one of best views of this steel city and its iconic buildings!
We took visitors to the rooftop of our Owen Building, providing a opportunity to see the City of Sheffield and our campus from above. We then gave a unique tour of the campus with information about the history of the university buildings and shared some of our future plans for the estate.
It was a real success with 100 people booking their place, a mixture of staff, alumni and the community. The high demand resulted in all tours being fully booked and the need for additional tours to be put on.
“The views were amazing, obviously. The fellow group members were great and many of us shared our memories of Sheffield places and how they’ve featured in our lives. Fascinating.”
