The University prides itself on maintaining a high quality estate and physical environment for our staff, students and visitors. Our property portfolio ranges from Grade II listed buildings built in the 1850s at our Collegiate Campus to the ultra-modern Cantor Building at our City Campus and is investing £110 million in its estate by 2015 both in new buildings and refurbishment.

We regularly carry out surveys of our estate which result in routine maintenance projects. One recent survey flagged up disease in some of the trees on University land at Akley Bank near Totley. We worked closely with local residents and Sheffield Council to remove these trees before the disease was able to spread. We chose this time of year to cause least disruption to nesting birds. The removal of the trees result in a better environment for local residents, including reassurance about the long term safety of the area and both less blockage of light and the stream thus reducing the risk of potential flooding.
