Materials and Engineering Research Institute (MERI) gets a makeover.

A two-year, £6m project to improve teaching and learning facilities for the University’s Department of Maths and Engineering has reached a key stage with the completion of the MERI laboratories. The state-of-the-art labs give engineering students the opportunity to develop practical skills and theoretical understanding in a professional environment. The work of the University’s two research institutes informs our teaching and both received the top award in the latest Research Assessment Exercise.

Senior project manager Chris Dales gave us an update on the project: “With the new MERI labs complete we are currently in the process of handing over to the department so that they can start using the fantastic new facilities. The next step is to tender for phases 2 and 3 which will go out at the end of this month.”

The project is due for completion in May 2015.
