Recruitment is underway for our two new Pro Vice-Chancellors in the Faculties of Arts, Computing, Engineering and Sciences and Development and Society.
This is an important stage in the University’s development, and following a good deal of thought and discussion, the Vice-Chancellor and colleagues have decided to take the opportunity to refresh the names of both faculties. The intention is to use names which give a stronger indication of the work undertaken in each faculty and so to help us more clearly articulate our place in the sector. There’s some evidence that these names will better resonate with students, prospective students and prospective staff. From 1 September, the Faculty of Arts, Computing, Engineering and Sciences will become the Faculty of Science, Technology and Arts (STA), while the Faculty of Development and Society will become the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH).
In each case, the change has been discussed with Faculty Leadership Teams. There are no plans to undertake any structural re-organisations as a result of the name change.
A task and finish group is being established to oversee the transition to the new names across our full range of activity, and to ensure that any cost implications are carefully managed. More details on this will be announced soon.
Further updates on the recruitment process will follow in due course; we hope to be able to announce appointments in July.
