Below is an update from Future Spaces regarding the beginnings of a project to replace the glass roof in the Atrium. Once the initial study is complete and a project timeline is established, the team will liaise with those staff that will be directly affected. Atrium roof
Towards the end of March we embarked on a project to replace the glass roof in the Atrium, kicking off with a feasibility study, this will provide crucial information that will inform development of the building project. Until we get the findings of this report a lot of the detail; including what the Atrium will look like, who will be impacted and how and when we will begin the construction will be unknown.
The feasibility study is expected to be completed by the end of Summer 2018; due to the nature and complexity of the project this extended and in depth report is critical to ensure the success. The study will start with a 3D model of the space with millimetre accuracy and structural assessments, this will allow for dynamic modelling and simulation of the space; for solar tracking and thermal modelling to identify hotspots and areas with glare.
All of this gathered information will then be fed into the design of the new atrium roof, it will also provide an updated project timeline and allow us to plan with our key stakeholders, and those staff affected how we will approach the period of disruption in 2019, when we expect to start on site.
Many of you who work, meet or hold events in or around the Atrium will be concerned about how this will affect your activities; uncertainty and disruption in the workplace and learning environment is not ideal for staff or students. During 2018 our team will ensure we update you on progress, and disruptions are kept to a minimum and managed.
