Back for its second year! Sheffield Hallam is proud to be supporting, sponsoring & attending the South Yorkshire LGBT+ Awards 2018. The evening recognises and celebrates individuals, groups and organisations within the LGBT+ community for their hard work, dedication and commitment to activism. It aims to reward those who campaign for fair and equal rights as well as actively changing the LGBT+ community and landscape within South Yorkshire.
Nominations are open now, until 30 April; you can view the award categories and submit nominations here.
John Leach, ULT Champion for LGBT+, said ‘I’m delighted that SHU is a Gold Sponsor of these awards as it signals our commitment to promoting an inclusive space to learn and work. I encourage everyone to consider making nominations to the awards – I will be doing so myself!’
Across South Yorkshire, a lot of work goes into promoting Equality & Inclusion for the LGBT+ communities:
-Activists making a change
-Charities working with young LGBT+ people
-Organisations creating & supporting inclusive environments
-Groups tirelessly building awareness through local LGBT+ events
All of this ultimate helps South Yorkshire to embrace diversity, be more inclusive & become a place where everyone can live their lives without fear of persecution.
Why your nominations matter – James Laley, co-chair of Signal:
Recognising contributions such as these is very important as it makes people feel proud and that their work is valued whilst inspiring others to take similar action, and this is why the awards are so important.
Last year we had a number of Sheffield Hallam winners and we want to ensure this happens again with a heightened awareness of the awards to help increase nominations. Please take some time to follow the link below, look at the award categories & nominate.
