As 2018 starts I want to take this opportunity to thank you for all the attention and care that you give to ensuring that our students have the most optimal of educational experiences. It is very much appreciated. And, I now need your further support.
You perhaps won’t be surprised that I am writing because we have reached that time of the academic year when the 2018 National Student Survey for final year students goes live. For us here at Sheffield Hallam this will be on Monday 29th January 2018.
As usual, promotional material will be displayed across both campuses throughout the period that the survey is being conducted. During the survey a number of promotional activities will take place in partnership with Faculties at both campuses and there will be awareness-raising amongst students via social media by both the University and Students’ Union.
Once again we are pleased to be supporting Student Minds – the UK’s mental health charity, who have worked directly with staff and students at Sheffield Hallam and for each survey completed the University will donate £3. Last year our final year students raised over £13,000 for Student Minds through completing the survey.
You will also be aware of how the NSS is important to us as a key measure of our students’ experiences of Hallam providing us with information on areas of high student satisfaction and areas where improvements can continue to be made. We have retained a University-wide target of 70% completion, recognising some variability across courses, to ensure that the outcomes are representative and your support in promoting the survey and encouraging students to complete the NSS are central to achieving this.
If you are not familiar with the NSS questions, and indeed would like to access all the information, guidance and materials needed, you will find these on this NSS page which is accessible from the intranet homepage.
And, as usual, if you have any queries or suggestions please either contact myself or Neil McKay.
With all good wishes and thank you again for all your help with this.
Best wishes
Professor Christina Hughes
Pro Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience)
