Be prepared- meningococcal and other communicable diseases

As we start another academic year, staff are reminded that the University has an action plan for dealing with meningococcal disease (i.e. meningitis and/or septicaemia) and other communicable diseases (such as TB, measles, mumps and rubella). Information about the plan is available at https://portal.shu.ac.uk/departments/srd/other/HSS/HI/Pages/Meningitis.aspx.

The action plan includes a form for recording reports of possible cases of meningococcal disease or active tuberculosis (TB). When receiving a report of a possible case it is important that Public Health England has as much information as possible to determine whether the ill person has meningococcal disease or active TB and it is also important to inform PHE as soon as possible.

For more information about the plan please contact Joe Rennie, Director of Registry Services (ext 4485 or j.rennie@shu.ac.uk) or Angela Temple, Governance Services (ext 4590 or a.temple@shu.ac.uk)
