Adsetts and Collegiate Libraries are holding a new exhibition ‘Meanwhile, in the Library…’ which will look at how comics, graphic novels, cartoons, newspaper strips, caricatures and picture books can be used within academia and how they connect with subjects such as game design, film, journalism, autobiography and art.
The exhibition will run throughout the 2017/18 academic year and the content will change over the year, across five themes: Why use comics in academia?, Comics as a social lens, Crossovers with other media, Comics and well-being, and Why we love comics.
The Library collections reflect the teaching and research needs of the university and over the years we have built a range of material spanning most subject areas, ranging from Watchmen to The Arrival, Palestine to The Way Things Work, Fun Home to Sin City, and Psychiatric Tales to The Art of Rocksteady’s Batman.
The team would like to involve researchers, teaching staff and readers with an interest in comics and graphic novels to help develop the supporting material for the exhibition.
You can get involved by creating supporting material related to your expertise or interests. We’re interested in people drawing as well as writing content, or helping to promote the exhibition. We’ve also put together a selection of the comics and graphics novels in the library and books about comics and graphic novels, and would welcome short reviews to go on the list. We are also keen to hear your suggestions on how you would like to get involved.
If this sounds like a project you would like to be involved with, contact us at ! LibraryExhibitions. Please check with your line manager first as being involved with the exhibition may require time away from your working role.
