As part of its modernisation programme to improve efficiency and reduce running costs, Digital Technology Services is moving one of its on-site data centres. This major work is taking place until the end of June and will involve equipment moves outside core working hours where possible to minimise disruption.
There will, however, be two major pieces of work which will affect the University’s IT Services.
- On Saturday 27 May between 8am and 8pm, there will be some periods when none of the University networks will be available as major changes are made to the network. This means there will be no access to email, Unified Comms telephony or Campus-based IT services including major University systems (such as shuspace and the staff intranet) for short periods while the work takes place. If you have a business critical need for access to SHU IT services during this time, please contact IT Help on x3333 (quoting reference DC move) so we can contact you to discuss whether any contingency arrangements can be made.
- Between 6pm on Friday 16 June and 8pm Sunday 18 June there will be some periods when IT services are at risk as equipment is relocated. There are no planned outages for any of the major systems but, to keep your files safe, please make sure you remember to save your work frequently and make preparations so that you are not entirely dependent on IT services for any activity during this time.
Please bear in mind that this work might affect the turnaround time of service requests as we manage the impact of this work on University business.
