Secondary Data: taking a sip from someone else’s cup

Wednesday 5 April, 1.30 – 4.30pm, Surrey building 5520

Funders and publishers encourage us to make our data openly available. But also they encourage us to re-use data that is created elsewhere by others.  This can enable greater cost-effectiveness and efficiency in our own research and lead to creating new opportunities.

We can only exploit these opportunities with the right skills.

Distinct from collecting and generating data, on one hand these skills involve intelligent data archiving and curation to enable successful re-use. And on the other, they involve evaluating and choosing appropriate datasets so we can combine, manipulate and analyse data in a meaningful way.

This event showcases three perspectives on the many opportunities and challenges encountered using secondary data.  Book a ticket at: http://bit.ly/DataSip.  For more information contact the Library Research Support Team at library-research-support@shu.ac.uk
