Sheffield Hallam recently won two national awards after being recognised for its commitment to widening participation and staff engagement.
The University’s widening participation and outreach team won the Higher Education Liaison Officers Association’s (HELOA) Innovation and Best Practice Award following a successful initiative to break down the barriers to higher education, particularly amongst youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The team organised a large programme of events throughout last year which were delivered in schools across the Sheffield City Region. Staff and student ambassadors delivered a variety of interactive sessions featuring zombies, vlogging, gameshows, video games and music as a way to raise aspirations and provide key information about the benefits of studying at university.
The award was voted for by HELOA delegates following presentations delivered by the shortlisted applicants.
Sheffield Hallam’s Finance Directorate was also named Non-Profit/Charity Company of the Year at the UK Employee Engagement (EE) Awards in association with People Insight, recognising the positive cultural change following a drive to improve staff engagement levels.
