Aspire is a Sheffield Hallam mentoring scheme developed for female academics to support them in their career trajectory.
The programme was launched in April 2013. Its key purpose was to address the gender imbalance of female academics in professor, and readership roles. This remains a key driver of the scheme, however year-on-year the programme has widened its scope to include those whose overall career aim is to secure a leadership position within HE.
This year – in response to specific requests for mentoring support – Aspire has broadened its purpose further to support female academics that are/may have:
- recently returned from a career break
- had a change to their contractual arrangements
- actively seeking a career transition
- recently been promoted/taken on board additional responsibilities
- wanting to raise their academic profile, etc.
The programme is open to all female academics within Sheffield Hallam. To be considered to become an Aspire mentee please complete the self-nomination form. Applications must be received by noon 4 January 2017.
It is important to explain why you want to be mentored, and how the scheme may assist you in your current and future career aspirations. This information will form part of the selection criteria for those applying to be mentored. Please note places on the scheme are limited.
Further information about the scheme, how to apply and who to contact are detailed on the self-nomination form.
