Reporting cases of measles

There have recently been a number of cases of measles in the Sheffield area. The University and the Medical Centre have taken action to encourage students, in particular new students, to ensure that they have up-to-date MMR vaccination.

In the event that a student is affected by measles it is likely that the case will be reported to Public Health England by a clinician who diagnoses the illness. However, staff are reminded that if they do receive notification of a case of measles they should use the form which is included in the action plan for dealing with meningococcal disease (i.e. meningitis and/or septicemia) and other communicable diseases to report the case to the University so that it can take appropriate action in association with Public Health England.

This form should also be used to report cases of meningococcal disease and active TB.

If in doubt please report.

For more information about the plan please contact Angela Temple in the University Secretariat on ext 4590 or A.Temple@shu.ac.uk.
