As part of the University’s commemoration of the centenary of World War I, and to remember all lives lost in armed conflict, staff and students have the opportunity to observe the national Two Minute Silence at 11am on Friday 11 November.
Observing the Two Minute Silence is a personal choice, but it may be observed in a number of ways:
- the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chris Husbands, will lead an observance for staff and students in the Owen Building from 10.50am underneath the big screen in the main entrance;
- Professor Karen Bryan will lead a similar observance in the Heart of the Campus building from 10.50am, opposite the main reception desk;
- spaces for personal contemplation are also available at the Multifaith Centre, level 2 Owen Building Level 2, and The Retreat, level 2 Oaklands, Collegiate Campus;
- subject to managers’ permission, staff may also observe the Two Minute Silence in their workspaces, at desks etc.
Campus plasma screens will signal the start and end of the Two Minute Silence.
