The University’s Board of Governors have agreed to sell its vacant properties on Broomgrove Road, at the rear of Collegiate Campus.
These Victorian houses, which have been largely unoccupied for a number of years, are no longer fit for purpose as student or staff space and would need a major refurbishment to be brought back into use. The significant investment this would require is not cost-effective for the University given the relatively small amount of space the houses provide and the very limited opportunities for future use.
In agreeing the sale, careful consideration was given to any potential impact on Collegiate campus as a whole. However as these properties are isolated from the majority of the campus, sitting as they do away from the main centres of activity, it was felt that disposing of them would not impact adversely on the remaining campus. Selling will also provide an opportunity for these currently empty properties to be reoccupied and refurbished by a new owner.
The University remains committed to providing high quality, modern, sustainable and fit-for-purpose spaces across both our campuses that will help us deliver cutting edge teaching and learning, support the development of academic activities and enhance the student and staff experience.
