Clearing 2016: could you volunteer?

Last year the University invested in new call centre technology to enable us to significantly increase the size of the our clearing operation to ensure applicants are able to make an application to the University as quickly and smoothly as possible. We were overwhelmed by the level of support we received and we had 75 members of staff from across the University supporting the clearing operation; staff involved fed back that they had really enjoyed the day.

In order to build on this success we need your help again in August 2016.

What are we asking?

We are looking for staff, from across the University, to join our clearing team by becoming a clearing call centre operative.  You must be available for one day of training on one of the following dates:

  • Monday 1 August 9am – 5pm
  • Tuesday 2 August 9am – 5pm
  • Thursday 4 August 9am – 5pm
  • Wednesday 10 August 9am – 5pm

And then be able to work on Clearing Day: Thursday 18 August 2016 6:30am – 6:30pm.

What would you be expected to do?

  • Answer and make phone calls in a confident and friendly manner from applicants who would like to apply to study at Sheffield Hallam – training will be provided
  • Collate applicant details and enter them onto our Student Management System (SI) – training will be provided
  • Determine if they have the correct qualifications to move through to the second stage of the application process – training will be provided
  • Transfer applicants to speak to a member of our academic team – training will be provided

Please note we expect all staff to get line manager approval prior to putting your name forward, as you will need to be released from your normal role for 2 days.

Once you’ve agreed it with your line manager, you can volunteer to be part of the team by emailing clearing@shu.ac.uk including your name, team/dept and training date preference. You’ll need to let us know you’re interested by Friday 8 July.

For an informal chat about the role, or if you have any questions, please contact Lindsey White on 4579
