This summer a herd of elephant sculptures will descend on Sheffield for the biggest public art event the city has ever seen, in support of The Children’s Hospital Charity.
The main Herd of Sheffield trail is released into the city on 11 July, until 5 October. The University has sponsored two elephants, which will be located at Fitzalan Square (sponsored by SIA) and Hallam Square; additionally, a number of elephants will be located near the University, sponsored by other organisations.
The official Herd of Sheffield app will go live on 11 July, enabling you to track the elephants across the trail. Full details can be seen on the Herd of Sheffield website.
Our University is also an official trail site for the Herd of Sheffield’s Little Herd. The Little Herd trail launched earlier this week and runs until the end of September.
We are housing 7 of the 72 baby elephants designed by local school children and teachers, opposite our Main Reception, Owen Building.
The Outreach baby elephant was designed by our competition winner Laura Green (aged 11) and was painted by her with the assistance of two of our second year Illustration students, Sandrine Baker and Anna Terreros.
The exhibition space for the 7 baby elephants was created by third year Interior Design student Jessica Martin.
The Outreach team has also created an elephant-themed treasure hunt around the University for families to enjoy for free over the summer. This starts at the trail site and is running Mon-Fri 9am-4pm for the duration of the exhibition.
