Your BBC, Your Channel 4: A future for public service TV

BBC Charter Renewal now moves into its final stages with the publication of the Government’s White Paper on 12 May. This, along with the possible privatisation of Channel 4, suggests that the future of these cultural institutions is currently in doubt. This event – open to all and free to members of the public – offers a unique opportunity in Sheffield to voice questions, share opinions and hear a distinguished panel of speakers debate the issues facing public service television in the UK today.

Tuesday 14 June, 4pm, Crucible Theatre, Sheffield

Speakers include:

  • Hugh Harris, Director – Media, International, Gambling & Creative Economy, Department for Culture, Media and Sport, speaking on the BBC;
  • Patrick Holland, Head of Documentaries, BBC;
  • Ralph Lee, Head of Factual and Deputy Chief Creative Officer, Channel 4
  • Jane Martinson, Journalist and Head of Media at the Guardian;
  • Lord David Puttnam, Film producer and Chair of the Inquiry into the Future of Public Service Television.
  • Chair – Steve Hewlett, journalist and presenter BBC Radio 4’s the Media Show

Five presentations will be followed by questions and comments from the audience.
