A new campaign to raise awareness of the University’s green credentials, and how staff and students can support our drive for improved sustainability, has been launched across the University. Over the next few months a series of marketing materials, including screensavers, electronic posters and banners, will be rolled out to highlight key sustainability initiatives and, importantly, the role staff and students play in making us a greener University.
The University undertakes a wide range of activities in order to deliver the services required by our students. These activities all have an interaction with, or impact on, the environment. Managing these impacts can not only have a positive effect on our environment but also help us to identify issues, ensure we meet legal and regulatory requirements (avoiding financial, judicial and reputational risk), and reduce costs through reduced consumption and waste.
The campaign has been launched to tie in with the ISO 14001 audit in August. ISO is an external environmental management system which measures our sustainability performance, demonstrating our commitment to reducing negative impacts on the environment through published policies and targets.
The Vice-Chancellor has identified sustainability as one of the five priorities underpinning the University’s new strategy to 2030. Our environmental management system provides an effective way of supporting this agenda and realising efficiencies across the organisation that will benefit us in an increasingly competitive environment.
