Summary of change
The RPL policy was refreshed in April 2015. It covers Recognition of Prior Certificated (RPCL) and Experiential (RPEL) learning. The policy sets out the process for handling an RPL claim and stresses the importance of the quality assurances process which should sit alongside the academic decision making process
From September 2016, there will an online process for managing RPL claims; until then, the paper-based forms should be used. These can be found at https://students.shu.ac.uk/regulations/assessment_awards/index.html
Key elements of the policy
- Academic staff need to be aware of this policy and process when advising applicants about entry to the University.
- The awarding of RPL is an academic decision made within Departments.
- All Departments and Faculties should have academics with experience in RPL – speak to your quality lead.
- All RPEL claims should be internally verified and externally moderated, just like all other assessments.
- All RPL claims should be ratified at a Departmental Assessment Board.
