Academic staff working in STEM subjects

Hallam University has been selected as one of only 52 Higher Education Institutions in the UK to take part in the 2016 ASSET survey, which explores gender equality in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths).

ASSET 2016 seeks to examine STEM academics’ experiences, expectations and perceptions of gender equality in their respective disciplines and in their higher education institution, from the recruitment process through to leadership.  It is open to all members of academic staff in STEM departments, and should take 20 to 30 minutes to complete. As long as you use the same computer, you can exit and return to the survey at a later time to finish it. The closing date is 28 May.

This is an opportunity for us to not only advance the understanding of gender equality in the higher education sector, but also gain invaluable insight about our own context. If we achieve a high response rate, the Equality Challenge Unit (ECU) will provide us with a summary of our institutional-level data, enabling us to compare SHU against the national picture. This will facilitate the identification of successes and areas for future work.

Gender equality in the higher education sector, and particularly within STEM subjects, remains a pressing concern, so we ask that you join us in supporting this important work and take some time to fill in the survey.
