IS&T has just produced the first release of a new Windows 10 Managed Desktop which supports a limited range of software and features. This includes Microsoft Office 2016, as well as Microsoft Project and Microsoft Visio.
The Managed Desktop is the suite of software which is made available to staff on their office workstations. Currently, most PCs run Managed Desktop 2014. Previous Managed Desktop releases have taken a considerable amount of time to produce and test before being released for use across the whole University because they supported every application, service and the large variety of hardware used within SHU.
For Windows 10, a different ‘agile methodology’ approach has been used, which allows it to be released faster to those users who don’t need all the software offered on the current version. Incremental updates of the Windows 10 Managed Desktop will be released each month, introducing support for new features, software and hardware with each release.
For information about what is available now and what is planned in the next release, please visit the Windows 10 Managed Desktop page of our staff intranet.
