Day pass kiosk in the libraries

On Monday 7 March, the day pass kiosks at both libraries were switched on; students and staff can use these kiosks to gain access if they have forgotten their SHUcard.

The kiosks are easy to use: simply enter your username and password via the touchscreen, follow the on-screen instructions and receive a paper day pass that can be used to swipe in and out at Adsetts and in at Collegiate.

The pass is valid for 24 hours from the time it is issued and can be used multiple times during that period and at both campuses.  While the pass is active, the user’s SHUcard will be blocked and won’t be able to be used to gain access to the library, borrow books or laptops.

Users are limited to 5 day passes per term and this limit is reset in January, after Easter, June and September.  Each time a user gets a pass they will get an email to say they have had a pass issued and how many they have had for that term; if a user exceeds the term limit, the kiosk will not issue any more day passes.

The usual pass back restrictions apply to the day pass – it cannot be used to swipe in twice within a two-minute period, the pass is not transferable and it cannot be used to borrow books. It is for access only.

If there are any problems with the kiosk, please report them to IT Support on x3333.
