Owen Jones was born in Sheffield, grew up in Stockport, and studied history at Oxford. His first book, the international bestseller Chavs, was long-listed for The Guardian First Book Award and chosen as one of the New York Times top 10 non-fiction books of 2011. In 2013 he won Young Writer of the Year at the Political Book Awards. He is a columnist for The Guardian and New Statesman and a frequent broadcaster. His second book, The Establishment – And How They Get Away With It, has won him yet more critical acclaim.
In his The Politics of Hope talk as part of the Off the Shelf Festival, which Sheffield Hallam has supported for several years, Owen will talk about his writing and work, his passionate views on political and economic injustice and his belief in solidarity and vision for the future – the politics of hope.
