Professorial Lecture – Professor Wolfgang Diehl

PLASMA Technologies – Functional Coatings For Automotive Applications
Tuesday 2 February, 6pm – Norfolk Building Room 210

Thin functional coatings are the key to new and superior products in almost all industrial branches. The most flexible and widely-used technology for deposition of thin films are plasma processes. These technologies are the first choice for an enormous bandwidth of materials and functions to be realized.

Wolfgang Diehl was born and educated in Germany and is Professor Extraordinaire for Surface Engineering and Thin Films at the TUT Tshwane University of Technology, SA and a visiting Professor at Sheffield Hallam University in UK.

For more than 25 years he has been involved in industrial and contract research work in the field of laser physics, photovoltaics and PECVD technology.

Wolfgang is an active Board member of several scientific research organisations in Germany, South Africa and UK, Chairman of the Board of directors of the Joint SHU-Fraunhofer HIPIMS Research Centre and President of the Society of Vacuum Coaters in USA.
