Most University staff office PC screens and laptops now automatically lock after 10 minutes of inactivity and you will need to use your password for unlocking. Staff will shortly be sent instructions about how to install automatic screen locking on Macs for those who use Apple computers in offices.
Automatic screen locking is not applied to lecture room PCs so that it won’t affect teaching. It’s therefore particularly important that you log yourself out of your account when you’ve finished in lecture theatres, meeting rooms and PC labs.
However, a lot can happen in ten minutes so lock your screen before you leave it. Pressing the Control, Alt and Delete keys together (or using the Windows and L keys together) lets you password protect your computer screen so no one can use your account, see confidential information or hack into University systems.
It’s your responsibility to keep your account safe.
