Power shutdown at City Campus – 6 January

A planned power shutdown at City Campus will take place on the evening of Wednesday 6 January 2016.  This work involves essential maintenance to equipment on the University’s High Voltage network, which will require us to isolate power to ALL AREAS of the following buildings:

  • Cantor (between 6pm-8pm approximately)
  • Adsetts (between 7pm and 9pm approximately)
  • Owen – including Main Reception, Security Control, Peak Lecture Theatre, Hallam Hall, Chef Hallam and Hallam View (switch off from 8pm)
  • Norfolk – including Hallam Active gym (switch off from 8pm)

Each building will be isolated individually and the only power available during this time will be emergency lighting. For safety reasons no students or members of the public will be allowed into these areas at this time, and staff presence should be limited to critical operations only.

Although we expect the maximum power outage for each building to be no more than 1½ hours, we strongly advise that the affected buildings are closed in advance of the planned switch off and do not reopen until the following morning.

Estates staff will be on site early on the morning of Thursday 7 January to check that key equipment and services are restored and running correctly. Staff and students in affected buildings should also take necessary steps to prepare for this power outage by switching off/securing equipment as appropriate on the afternoon of Wednesday 6 January.
