Automatic screen locking from 17 December

IS&T are introducing automatic screen locking as part of the University’s ongoing campaign to improve security and protect access to its IT systems and data.

From 17 December staff office PCs will go into auto lock mode if the computer hasn’t been used for 10 minutes and you will need your password to unlock it.  This will not apply to meeting rooms, lecture theatres and PC labs to ensure teaching is not disrupted.  In these rooms, it is important that you log out when you leave.  Staff using Macs or other systems will not have this automatically applied. Instructions on how to set it up will be made available to Mac users shortly.

If you find your office PC has not had the update, or if you notice that a teaching or meeting room PC has accidentally received it, please notify ithelp@shu.ac.uk so that we can resolve it.

Please remember that you are responsible for locking your workstations whenever you leave your desk.  To lock your screen, hold down the control, alt and delete keys at the same time and then select lock screen. Alternatively you can use the Windows and L keys together.
