IS&T is introducing a ‘select and release’ system to manage staff print jobs, so when staff collect their printing they will log in and select the jobs they would like to print. This system will help improve confidentiality and reduce waste.
Why are we doing this?
Every day pages of unwanted printing pile up on printers around the University, often by printing and forgetting about it or printing accidentally. This not only wastes paper and ink, it also allows potentially sensitive or personal information to be seen by people it wasn’t intended for. The new system will avoid this and is part of the University’s print strategy.
How does it work?
Staff log in to the printer using their SHUcards (or manually) and press the release button. Then they select the jobs they wish to print and press the blue button to start printing.
Which buildings have select and release printing?
We have started introducing it at Collegiate Campus and it is being used in the new building at 1 Furnival Square. We will roll it out across the rest of the University throughout the year.
