Monday 2 February, 7pm – the bar of The Showroom
Speaker: Dr. Melvin Gauci, Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering, The University of Sheffield.
Swarm Robotics takes inspiration from collective behaviours observed in nature, such as multi-cellular organisms, colonies of social insects, bird flocks, and fish schools. These behaviours are often robust in that they have no single point of failure. They are also flexible, with the same system being able to adapt itself to accomplish different tasks. This principle is being used in robotics to help pave the way for novel applications in agriculture, medicine and the development of smart materials.
