The University Executive has confirmed that Wednesday 24 December will be maintained as a normal working day. Therefore, the University will be open until 5pm with some specified areas remaining open longer to meet their customer requirements. As agreed, staff who wish to leave at lunchtime should take leave or deduct the time from accrued flexitime as appropriate.
Timetabled activity should be limited, with no teaching scheduled after 1pm, this is to allow for a prompt closure at 5pm. Arrival and departure after 4pm at City Campus will be through the main entrance only.
At Collegiate Crescent Campus, security staff will start locking up procedures from 3pm on properties which are not staffed and/or not in use. Arrangements have been made for the timed closedown of each area and the designated manager has the responsibility for informing their teams what time they can leave without requiring the use of annual leave or flexitime.
It would be preferable for no assignment hand-ins to be scheduled on December 24, however if there are, the assignment hand-in location must be staffed appropriately until after the scheduled time.
The University will reopen at 6am on Monday 5 January 2015.
The libraries will be open throughout the Christmas period. Students and staff will be able to use the buildings if they bring their SHUcard.
If there are any problems arising from these arrangements please let your Faculty PVC /Assistant Dean or Head of Department know. They should in turn contact Mark Swales, Director of Estates and Facilities.
