The expertise of the University’s Centre for Sports Engineering Research (CSER) will feature in a Channel 4 documentary on Sunday 16 November, when speed junkie and motorcycle racer Guy Martin takes on another new adrenaline-fuelled challenge in his attempt to set an extraordinary speed record.
The CSER team – Dr Heather Driscoll, Terry Senior, Alice Bullas, Dr John Hart and Christina King – worked with Guy in an attempt to break the gravity racer world record. Using just gravity, Guy will aim to achieve 100mph to set a new record for the fastest speed achieved by a ‘Gravity Racer’- a motorless vehicle which is raced on a downhill road and which was created with help from the CSER team.
The challenge follows on from last year’s collaboration with Guy, when Sheffield Hallam’s sports engineering expertise helped him smash the record for the world’s fastest toboggan.
You can see Speed with Guy Martin, featuring the Sheffield Hallam team, on Sunday 16 November at 8pm on Channel 4.
