Research Data Management Survey

Research data is one of the foundations on which we build our research outputs. It is therefore important that we look after our data whilst we are working with it. It may even be desirable to share some of it once our research project is finished to allow others to verify and share the results of our research. Indeed, a new open access agenda has emerged with funders of research increasingly mandating open access of research outputs and the sharing of research data. Many funders are now asking for data management plans when we apply for grants, and some journals ask for access to the data that underpin our published work.

In response to these developments the University has started a Research Data Management (RDM) project to establish the support our researchers need. This will include support for data management planning, secure short-term storage of live data, and long-term preservation of archived data where required; as well as guidance, advice and training.

In order to provide Research Data Management services that meet your needs, we would like to know:

  • what datasets are produced in our University
  • how they are currently managed, preserved and possibly shared
  • what support needs our researchers may have for Research Data Management

If you are a researcher, we would like to hear from you!  Please fill out the following short survey: http://tinyurl.com/shu-rdm-survey

The survey should take about 10 to 15 minutes to complete. This can be done anonymously.

Please do not hesitate to contact Eddy Verbaan, Research Data Manager, e.verbaan@shu.ac.uk, for more information.
