The University is constantly bombarded by spam emails, phishing attacks and fraudulent hacking attempts. IS&T safeguards you from most of these using anti-virus products and protective security software.
Occasionally these attacks get though our systems. It’s rare but hackers are finding more sophisticated ways of targeting people – and at this time of year they are particularly active, with many scams focusing on student finance.
With your University emails, as well as your personal correspondence, remember to be vigilant and think before you open any email attachments or click any links you are sent. If we think we’ve discovered an attack which may be serious, we will send an email to warn you about it – but that warning may be too late if you’ve already clicked on the link.
For advice about how to protect yourself from phishing scams, please see this information from IT help. If you think you may have unwittingly clicked a dubious link or opened an email of this kind, please stop using your computer and contact IT help.
