Criminology provision at Sheffield Hallam has been labelled as the very best in the country after it received a prestigious award for teaching excellence from its peers.
The British Society of Criminology (BSC) has awarded the criminology team, part of the University’s Department of Law and Criminology, with its acclaimed Teaching Award for the way it is developing students’ careers.
The award, sponsored by SAGE, was presented at The British Society of Criminology conference in partnership with the Higher Education Academy at the University of Liverpool last night (Thursday 10 July).
A BSC judging panel heard testimonies from students and practitioners about how the BSC course prepared students for careers in the field.
The judges found that the department used “innovative teaching strategies which make positive contributions to learning and teaching within criminology clear. Furthermore, the application demonstrated the development of teaching strategies that meet the needs of a diverse student population and this was also commended.”
The programme includes police procedures, scenes of crime investigation techniques, practitioner-led training sessions and placements with high-profile partners in police, probation and criminal justice environments.
The team also uses technology to walk students through 3D crime scenes.
