Tour de France – Fundraising activities

As a sponsor of the Grand Depart we would like the Tour de France to have a lasting legacy for our students and our local community.  A major part of that legacy will be generated by our fundraising activities taking place from 27 June.

All money raised from these events will go to Marie Curie Cancer Care – the official charity of the Tour de France; and a newly launched fund for the University, The VC’s Fund for Care Leavers.

Wear Yellow Day and Cross Campus Commute – 27 June
On Friday 27 June we are asking all staff to wear yellow for the day and take part in their own fundraising activities ahead of the VC’s Bike Ride on the 29 June.  This could include bake sales or raffles with all donations to be collected locally through your Staff Engagement or Communications team or made through the just giving site:  www.justgiving.com/vcscycleride

There will also be a cross-campus commute to encourage more staff to use bikes as a way to travel between our campuses.

The City to Collegiate leg will start from 12pm at Hallam Square
The Collegiate to City leg will start from 12.45pm at the Robert Winston Building

We will ask participants to wear yellow clothing or accessories and there will be prizes up for grabs including official Tour de France merchandise.

VC Bike Ride – 29 June
The VC, and avid cyclist, Philip Jones will join with members of our cycling team to ride the second stage of the Tour.  The team will set off early from York on Sunday 29 June and then embark on the 198km ride to Sheffield. They expect to arrive into Sheffield at around 6pm, and will ride on past the official stage finish at Arena Square to a welcome reception outside the University’s main building.

Donations can be made to our just giving site at www.justgiving.com/vcscycleride or given to your local Staff Engagement or Communications team for collection.
