On Saturday 24 May the University’s wireless network will be down between 8am and 6pm while we make improvements to the network. Although Wi-Fi will be available again from Saturday evening, work will continue on the Sunday, as the network team continues to test and monitor the new systems and ensure the service is fully operating.
This scheduled downtime is required to allow the IS&T team to replace aging hardware that provides the core of the wireless network. The new hardware will allow the University to build a wireless network that will be more resilient and provide the extra capacity needed to meet the predicted growth of the service.
We have made every effort to minimise the impact of these changes but there is still a small risk of disruption to the University’s wired, wireless and internet services for short periods on these days. It’s therefore particularly important for staff and students using network services on or off campus to save their work, regularly during this time.
